2014 Garrold Parratt Field Benefit
The 14th annual Garrold Parratt Field Benefit will be held on Sunday, March 30th at the Deshler American Legion. This year’s guest speaker will be the 1951 All-Star Game’s starting pitcher for the American League, Ned Garver. Ned is from Ney, Ohio and made his Major League debut in 1948 with the St. Louis Browns against the Detroit Tigers in St. Louis. Ned pitched over the course of 14 years with the Browns, Tigers, Kansas City Athletics, and the Los Angeles Angels. During Ned’s big league career, he faced Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and so many other great baseball players of that era. There will also be memorabilia that Ned collected over the course of his career on display.
Doors will open at 4 pm with a meal served at 5 pm. All proceeds from the benefit will help maintain and improve Garrold Parratt Field. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. They may be purchased at the PHHS office during school hours or by contacting a baseball coach or player. We hope you can join us on Sunday, March 30th at the Parratt Field Benefit and hear from one of the last living legends to face the likes of Williams, DiMaggio, and Mantle!
